Tom Selleck admits he experiences health issues after over 50 years of doing his own film stunts

“My back’s kind of messed up,” the actor confessed.

Hollywood is where dreams come true, but only the most talented and lucky individuals can make it big and stay there.

Tom Selleck is one of the few celebrities who has had a long and successful career in the film industry.

The actor’s major opportunity arrived when he was chosen to play the main character, Thomas Magnum, in Magnum, P.I. This role earned him five Emmy Award nominations, and he won one in 1985.

Before becoming famous, he had small parts in movies and TV shows, did commercials, and was on The Dating Game twice. He said the game show was embarrassing and he lost both times. Selleck joined 20th Century Fox’s talent program for two years, then took a break for military duty. When he came back, he was let go, but he didn’t give up.

Tom Selleck told AARP that he was fortunate to not land a serious job until he was 35. At 25, he appeared older but sounded much younger. Many talented actors succeed as young stars but struggle to transition to adult roles due to audience perception.

Magnum P.I. arrived just as he was about to abandon his pursuit of an acting career. In an interview with Closer Weekly, he revealed, “If Magnum hadn’t succeeded, I would have never found work in this industry again.”

Since 2010, Selleck has appeared as a co-star in the TV show Blue Bloods, portraying Frank Reagan, the commissioner of the New York City Police Department. The series has been confirmed for its 13th season.

Throughout his long career, Selleck performed the majority of stunts himself. However, this choice has had consequences on his body over time.

“My back’s kind of messed up,” Selleck shared.

Performing stunts in movies involves risks, but also includes a lot of downtime. After a fight scene, you may have to wait in your chair without a personal trainer guiding you through warm-up exercises.

He mentioned, “I observe the price when comparing with others and occasionally discuss it with them. You can easily notice the cost of those tricks. They weren’t too difficult, but I believe it’s the constant starting and stopping of all those activities.”

The actor stays fit by working on his ranch in Ventura, California. He is also extremely fond of horses, a love he has shared with his daughter.

Selleck and his wife Jillie Mack have been happily married for 35 years. Their bond is one of the strongest in Hollywood because he prioritizes his family above all else.

Selleck mentioned in 2012 that he left Magnum to focus on his family.

It was a lengthy process to disembark from the train, but I put in a lot of effort to maintain balance, and this ranch has been instrumental in achieving that.

His wife chimed in, saying that they both believed it was the ideal setting for Hannah’s upbringing.

We hope Tom Selleck stays healthy.
